Help Stop Antibiotic Overuse on the Farm

Take Action

Take action today: Help make sure we don’t enter a post-antibiotic era! It is a scientific fact that the more antibiotics are used, the less effective they become, making the following statistics particularly scary:

  • An estimated 50 percent of antibiotic use in people is not necessary.
  • Up to 70 percent of antibiotics sold in the U.S. are given to cows, chickens, pigs, and other farm animals to maximize growth and to compensate for crowded and dirty farm conditions.
This rampant overuse of antibiotics has resulted in the development of resistant bacteria that are more difficult to treat and more likely to cause death particularly among children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

The good news is that Congress and the Obama administration have the power to end antibiotic overuse—we just need to convince them.

Please join us by emailing your members of Congress and asking for their support of common-sense policies where antibiotics are used most: on industrial farms.
